Sharon Draper Visits W.G. Sanders Middle School

Award winning author and National Teacher of the Year Sharon Draper visited W.G. Sanders Middle School on Friday, October 3, 2014.  Our students had the opportunity to hear Mrs. Draper talk about her books, where she gets her inspiration to write her books, and the importance of being active readers. Also, our students were able to participate in a question and answer interview with Mrs. Draper.  Sharon Draper is known for her adolescent novels such as Tears of a Tiger, Forged by Fire, Darkness Before Dawn, The Battle of Jericho, Romiette and Julio, and Copper Sun.

Congratulations to Mrs. Feemster, Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. Wallace-Sanders, and Mrs. Yates for receiving the South Carolina Council Teacher of Excellence Award for Social Studies

    From the Principal

I take great pride in being the principal of W. G. Sanders Middle School because of the wonderful staff, students and parents. I continue to be amazed with the rich history of traditions that help prepare students for a successful career in high school. This year we are implementing a wide variety of developmentally appropriate strategies in facilitating the learning for our students. Teachers continue to infuse technology into student lessons, and teachers continue to provide a challenging curriculum for our students. Stop by our parent and community center to find ways in which you can support our community initiatives. Also, take a look at our mission statement, our beliefs and our action plans. Give us feedback as we continue to monitor and enhance our instructional program. I look forward to working with all of you.
